Are you and art collector? Maybe, you’d like to be an art MAKER.
Can you be both? Sure you can.
If you collect art, you are expressing yourself through what you display in your home or office. You are making a statement with each piece. Whether you collect pottery, jewelry, sculpture or wall art, all of those things tell something about you. They express your interests, affinities, or maybe your heritage.
I love to make art. At the same time, I see so many pieces of art at shows and fairs that just attract me like a magnet. I see the beauty, the details or just some feeling I can’t explain that makes me want to own that piece of art so I can continue to enjoy it. I would probably run out of space if I could bring home every piece of art that calls my attention like that.
If you’ve experienced that feeling, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Have you ever wanted to make art yourself but, felt that you couldn’t because you chose to be an accountant instead of taking those art courses? Or, maybe you were told that art isn’t a real career – you chose a different path.
It is NEVER too late to start something new. Ray Kroc started McDonald’s at 52. Anna Mary Robertson Moses (Grandma Moses) started painting at the age of 75. In 2006, one of her paintings (Sugaring Off) sold for 1.2 million.
You have to ignore those messages inside your head that say you’re too old, you have no natural talent, you could never draw anything but stick people. That’s really just nonsense. So tell yourself that you know better.
You will certainly never regret giving painting (or some other creative activity) a try. But, if you choose not to get creative now, later, when you are still feeling that you would like to start painting – you will wonder why you waited so long and wasted so much time – doubting.
So don’t wait. Don’t put it off any longer. Pick up a brush. Load it with paint. Begin.
